  1. ASTROPLANE best vertical antenna ever? - WorldwideDX Radio …

Apr 12, 2013 · The gain of the 5/8 wave ground plane is heavily dependant on the ground plane under the vertical radiator. The radials on this antenna are far from an infinite ground plane but it is likely that the Penetrator would produce slightly stronger signals in the distance. The difference would not be noticed locally in most cases.

  2. Avanti Astro Plane (old school) | WorldwideDX Radio Forum

Oct 15, 2006 · I recently went and knocked on the front door of a old man that I had helped install this antenna MANY years ago, as a kid. This gentleman has since passed away & his son lives there now. We chatted for awhile about the CB craze of the 70's and he asked me if I would help him take it down, since...

  4. The AstroPlane Another Viewpoint | WorldwideDX Radio Forum

Oct 23, 2005 · IMO, none of this means the A/P is bad, weak, a dummy load, or is deficient. It is a great antenna and better in other ways that only a few will likely acknowledge. Make your own conclusions about the likely gain for the AstroPlane as reported by Avanti advertising and by others making knockoffs of the great vertical 1/2 wave antenna design.

  6. The first only report on the New Sirio Top One

Oct 23, 2005 · Talks really GREAT on 28.355 USB with NO TUNER. And really pretty low SWRs on the regular CB band and even on lower ones below channel 1 too. Really "BROAD" Banded Antenna. A LOT better than my Sirio 827 which I had up for 3 years too. Which is pretty excellent made for a 22 foot tall Antenna. Sirio has done an A+ Job with this one for sure...

  8. sirio changed the top one . no longer an astroplane clone

Dec 26, 2009 · loosecannon, I think this antenna is a shortened 1/2 wl dipole with slanted down ground radials at a steep angle. I think this New Top One is similar to a Starduster or the Merlin than it is to the original Astro Plane/Top One. To me it looks like this antenna uses a gamma, allowing Sirio to build the kit without the

  9. 1970's Hy Gain SP-500 VS. Avanti Astroplane - WorldwideDX …

Apr 18, 2008 · I had an original Astro Plane back in the 70’s it was the first antenna that I had. For a 12 year old rookie it was great. 1.2 to 1 match around the band but slightly higher on 26.965. The only problem that I can remember was an odd noise during some heavy rains, not all rain just some. I used that antenna many years before putting up a PDL II.

  10. Difference in AstroPlane vs. New Top One per Eznec5

Oct 23, 2005 · think about it back when the astro plane was designed they took into account the height restriction of cb antenna, which was 20'. You take a 20' foot mounted 1/8 wave and you have a 5/8 wave. so i really think it is much closer to 1/4 or an 1/8 wave the difference if it is one or the other was the "electrical" difference.
