KYIV - No Russian missiles reached Ukraine on Monday after the air force put the country on high alert, reporting that a large number of bombers were taking off from Russian territory for the first time in more than two months.

Air raid alerts were issued across most of Ukraine following Russian air strikes that resulted in at least six fatalities in the south. Five people were killed in Mykolaiv, and one in Zaporizhzhia, where 18 others were injured.

The Washington Post reported that Trump had had a phone call on Thursday with the Russian strongman in which he told Putin not to inflame the attritional war.
