Snowfall ranges from only six to 12 inches over far southeast Lower Michigan including Detroit and Monroe to over 10 feet of snow in the purple areas near Gaylord and Munising in the Upper Peninsula.

Lake effect snow is expected to fall across much of Michigan this week as high winds sweep across Lake Superior, Lake Michigan.

Winter weather advisories are in place for much of Michigan to start the week, the National Weather Service said.

The west side of the state will see the brunt of a winter storm moving into Michigan this morning, but most of the Lower Peninsula will be affected.

The coldest air mass of the season is expected to arrive next Monday and could potentially bring even harsher conditions.
