“These young kids, they just come on their job and oh my God. Their poor families and their partners, it’s heartbreaking,” retired CPD Officer Maureen Kristin said. Martinez, 26, would’ve celebrated his third anniversary with CPD next month.

Chicagoans packed a far South Side church Sunday morning to honor and mourn Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez, who was killed in the line of duty last week. The memorial Mass was held at St. Christina Church in Mount Greenwood, a neighborhood long home to police officers and firefighters.

Many proudly adhered fallen Chicago police Officer Enrique Martinez’s face to their chests. “In loving memory,” read the buttons that were being passed out to those filing into the Mount Greenwood Catholic church to honor the slain officer’s life and service to the city.

Fellow officers, firefighters, paramedics, and the community are asked to wear blue to the mass to honor CPD Officer Enrique Martinez.
