Connor McDavid has been suspended for three games by the NHL following an altercation with Vancouver Canucks F Conor Garland.

Three-time NHL MVP Connor McDavid has been suspended three games for cross-checking Vancouver's Conor Garland in the head.

The NHL suspended Connor McDavid three games Monday, two days after he cross-checked Vancouver's Conor Garland at the end of a melee between the two. Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers was also suspended three games for cross-checking Evan Bouchard.

On Monday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced that Connor McDavid would be suspended three games for cross-checking Conor Garland. The incident occurred late in the third period of the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

The NHL has given both Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers suspensions for their cross-checks in a recent Vancouver Canucks-Edmonton Oilers game.

This is not the first time that McDavid has faced disciplinary action. He served a two-game suspension in February 2019 for a hit to the head on then-New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy. Additionally, he was fined $5,000 in March 2021.

McDavid’s cross-check to Garland’s face is exactly the kind of play the NHL is trying to get out of the game. Violence exists in the league, but targeting the head is punishable by suspension and McDavid will have a hearing about the incident on Monday.
