Pocketpair, the company behind Palworld, says it doesn’t know what patents it violated. The game has been described as “Pokémon with guns” by many players online.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, the developer of Palworld, for patent infringement. In response, Pocketpair has said that it is “unaware” of the patents it is accused of infringing and will begin its own legal proceeding to investigate.

The Pokemon Company and Nintendo have officially sued Pocketpair for Palworld. In a press release Nintendo Co. Ltd. linked to on Twitter, they said this:

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have filed a lawsuit in Tokyo District Court against Japanese video game studio Pocketpair, alleging that its parody shooter game Palworld is violating intellectual property laws.

Nintendo and the Pokemon Company's lawsuit against fellow creature-collectathon Palworld is for patent infringement, rather than copyright infringement, and one analyst reckons that means Nintendo has "given up" on trying to argue that Pals look too similar to Mons.

This lawsuit comes almost nine months after the release of Palworld, which first became available for players on Jan. 19, 2024. Palworld saw a ton of success upon its initial rele
