Forecasters with the National Weather Service of New Orleans said Sunday morning that it's too soon to tell whether the Caribbean system will impact the local area.

Development chances rose Sunday for a tropical disturbance in the Caribbean that’s forecast to continue strengthening as it tracks north into the Gulf of Mexico.

A tropical depression is likely to form in the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico this week, according to the National Hurricane Center. What is not yet known is whether this system will continue to develop into a tropical storm or a hurricane.
