Southern Californians are bracing for gusty winds and a heightened risk of wildfires less than two weeks after deadly blazes that have killed at least 27 people and ravaged thousands of homes broke out.

Forecasters in Southern California expect to issue a 'particularly dangerous situation' red flag warning for the coming week as the Santa Ana wind forecast worsens.

With more critical fire weather this week in Los Angeles, the National Weather Service once again issued one of its strongest warnings possible.

The latest Santa Ana winds will return Monday, with the strongest gusts expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, as Los Angeles fires continue to burn.

National Weather Service offices across Southern California are warning residents of an increase in weather conditions that are conducive to rapid fire growth. Meteorologists are most concerned about conditions from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning when winds will be at their peak and relative humidity will be low.

A strong and dry Santa Ana event with extreme fire weather conditions is increasingly likely,” the NWS said. “This event may be considerably stronger for many areas than the event that we experienced this past Monday through Wednesday.
