Archaeologists have discovered the site of the ancient Battle of al-Qadisiyyaha in Iraq using declassified photos from a US spy satellite.

Archaeologists say they have found the site of an ancient battle in what is now Iraq by comparing historical accounts with declassified images from US spy satellites.

The team, along with archaeologists from University of Al-Qadisiyah pinpointed the location of the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah, which took place in 637/8 AD

In a historic discovery, US spy satellite imagery from the 1970s revealed the exact location of a decisive battle in the seventh century that marked the spread of Islam throughout the known world.
