With the Rangers leading 4-3 late in the third, K’Andre Miller seemed to be in control while with the puck in the defensive zone. A forechecking Sam Steel changed that. He charged at Miller, breaking up an attempted pass behind the net to seize possession. He fed Harley for the game-tying goal.

Coach Peter Laviolette has changed the team’s defensive alignment, returning to the 1-3-1 that served the team well last season. That said, no structure works without application, and after six weeks spent moping about the loss of locker room leaders Barclay Goodrow and Jacob Trouba, the team seems to have rediscovered their verve.

The defenseman was traded to the Rangers by the Kraken on Dec. 18 for Kaapo Kakko. Borgen,  paired with K'Andre Miller, has played well.
