Donald Trump’s ally, Vivek Ramaswamy, was bypassed for a Senate appointment in his home state of Ohio despite encouragement by the president-elect, foreclosing a political possibility for the entrepreneur at the start of the new administration.

Gov. Mike DeWine has selected his own Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to become the next senator from Ohio, passing over entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Two sources, granted anonymity to speak freely about the appointment, confirmed that DeWine will pick Husted.

Vivek Ramaswamy, who was also seen as a possible replacement for the vice president-elect, is widely expected to run for governor of Ohio instead.
