Harris County inmate Erik Carlson died on Jan. 25 after he was transferred to a correctional facility in Louisianna.

A manhunt is underway for inmate Travis Earl Bryant II after sheriff's deputies say he escaped the Harris County Joint Processing Center releasing area on Tuesday.

The sheriff's office says the 70-year-old man suffered from a pre-existing medical condition on Jan. 10, and died at the hospital on Sunday.

One of the prisoners died after being transferred to a private prison in Louisiana, an ongoing practice used to address chronic overcrowding within the downtown Houston jail.
