Some forecasters fear the storm system could grow into a major hurricane that could impact the Gulf coast region of the U.S.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service of New Orleans said Sunday morning that it's too soon to tell whether the Caribbean system will impact the local area.

A tropical depression is likely to form in the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico this week, according to the National Hurricane Center. What is not yet known is whether this system will continue to develop into a tropical storm or a hurricane.
