Members of the Xbox Insider Program can now use hard drives larger than 16TB, giving them vastly more storage space to keep even more games.

It's good news for anyone looking to back up their entire collection of Xbox games.

Xbox now supports external USB hard drives larger than 16TB. Drives formatted on the Xbox Series X|S will be split into multiple partitions, allowing you to utilize all the available storage for games and apps. These partitions will show up as separate devices in the storage devices list, so you can easily manage your library.

The addition of support for bigger external USB storage has been confirmed for Xbox Insiders, as part of a system software update rolling out now to public testers in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring. As ever, this new feature will slowly filter out to larger testing groups before its widespread public release, typically over the next couple of weeks.

Xbox has a new beta software update rolling out today for Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring that enables Series X and S systems to support much larger external hard disks. Previously, the Xbox could only support up to 16TB of space on a single USB-connected drive.
