Senior US officials have reportedly said Washington will no longer accept the presence of Hamas representatives in Qatar, accusing the Palestinian group of rejecting the latest proposals to achieve a Gaza ceasefire and a hostage deal.

Qatar's suspension of its crucial mediation between Israel and Hamas has crushed hopes for a long-stalled truce in the Gaza war and hostage release deal.

The Gulf state's foreign ministry said it notified Israel and Hamas during the last round of negotiations that it would "stall its efforts" to mediate a truce if an agreement was not reached.
