As a destructive and life-threatening windstorm continues battering Southern California Tuesday, fire officials warned the danger will continue overnight as peak winds are forecasted to arrive.

Winds began gaining strength across Southern California as forecasters warned of “life-threatening, destructive” gusts that could last for days while toppling trees, creating dangerous surf and bringing extreme fire risk to areas that haven’t seen substantial rain in months.

As the South prepped for snow and more cold starting Wednesday, residents in Southern California faced off with hurricane-strength winds.
