The place is interesting because you can feel what was the Stalin ism. It was built in pure soviet architectural style and visiting this museum with all the displays glorifying one of the big crimi… Full review by Jupiter81

The museum has a good collection of almost everything about Stalin, and of course from the positive perspective. The preservation of his birthplace right next to museum is particularly interesting. Full review by vincentchengys

The reviews for the Stalin Museum at Gori have been mixed and I understand why. It is important to realise that this museum gives a Gori perspective, which I imagine is particular to his birthplace t… Full review by Voyage59930327821
Thank you for your review of Stalin's museum. If I only wanted to see the OUTSIDE of Stalin's railway carriage, could I do that WITHOUT having to enter the museum? Is it located in a public space I can simply walk up to? Thank you for your help! CalmDude

You'd have to go in, but it's not expensive. Otherwise, you could sneak in through the exit, which is near the carriage. You would, however, be risking the Gulag.
What is the museum’s policy on cameras and bags? I’ll be coming with a tour group in February, thanks.

I am in Kutaisi in November and travelling to Tbilisi & on to Baku. Would I be better heading to Gori from Kutaisi on the way to Tbilisi or get to Tbilisi and take a day tour from there?

James, I was there last month and I did the opposite. From Tbilisi to Gori to Kutaisi. From my experience you can do in one day trip if you are an early bird. I spent 2 nights as I had time. No Marshtrutka (mini bus) go directly from Kutaisi to Gori or vice-versa. So you need to get any Marshtrutka that goes to Tbilisi (Kutaisi to Gori is 150 km) and ask the driver to stop in the main entrance of Gori. From there you walk 30 m and get Marshtrutka #2 (0.50 GEL) to downtown and refer Stalin museum and the driver stops right next to it. Stalin museum you can explore in about 1 hour for 10 GEL and 5 GEL to see inside Stalin’s carriage. Personally I did only the museum as the carriage and house you can see from outside. After, if you still have time, try to go to Uplistiskhe (if you don’t go to Vardzia) it’s a nice cave town that is located next to Gori. You take Marshtrutka #2 towards train station and from there you take another Marshtrutka to Uplistiskhe (ask the driver its last stop) and its only 1 GEL the ride. It’s about 2 -3 hours including ride and to see this place. From Gori you can easily reach Tbilisi with Marshtrutkas for 3 GEL it drops you at Didube station. The ride is 1h30 min. I might be wrong but inform first when the last Marshtrutka departs from Gori. It might be 6 pm but since it’s high season they must have till 8 pm. Not sure. Actually from Gori to Kutaisi I hitchhiked and it was fun! 3 cars and Ithe longest wait was 10 min in between... have fun in Georgia. I’m currently in Batumi! If you need any information let me know!
How long should we allow ourselves to see all of the museum? Thanks!

We stayed for three hours . It is not big . Two stores and a lot of pictures. I found interesting the gifts Stalin received. Most itens look from a common Souvenir Shop . Outside the Museum there is his infancy House ( rented , Very, very humble) and the train he used for travels ( very plain , nothing Romanov style ) You have to pay some extra to get in the train car but is worth. All the Museum is somewhat humble even with some marble or velvet . Nothing I have not seen in some high schools in my city . The City Hall is not far and you may see bullet Marks in its walls from the 90 war Russia- Georgia Watch “ Five days War “ a movie that depicts the events
